Academics

While CBA offers a healthy array of extra-curricular activities, academics have always and will remain one of the school’s top priorities. CBA’s experienced and passionate teachers seek to provide students with the best education possible. We believe this is the reason our students’ 5 year average ACT is 3 points higher than the Oklahoma state average. Additionally, CBA’s student/teacher ratio is 7:1 resulting in small class sizes that help boost learning and encourage each student to engage one-on-one with his or her instructors.

+ Academic Team

In recent years, our academic team has grown to be one of the most dominant in the state. CBA made an appearance at eight state tournaments in a row from 2015 through 2022, leaving with the State Championship in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022, and hosts multiple tournaments throughout the year.

+ Band

From marimba to trumpet, oboe to baritone saxophone, CBA has instruments to fit everyone’s musical tastes. Students perform in both pep band and concert band. There are many opportunities for solos, contests, and worship team participation.

+ Choir

One of the staple programs at CBA is its choir, which has qualified for state competition for more than 50 years. Now led by Briana Bull, the choir continues to thrive and excel. Vocalists have the opportunity to compete and also to perform in many concert settings. The church choir programs provide public speaking training as well. The high school choir's annual tour to surrounding states is a highlight of their CBA experience.

+ Drama

A key component of our English curriculum is Drama. Every year, the junior and senior classes each put on a production as a learning experience, but also for the enjoyment of the rest of the student body and the surrounding community.

+ Spiritual Life

In addition to our Bible classes and daily chapel, CBA seeks to foster spiritual growth in our students by teaching all of our classes from a Biblical perspective. Weekly small groups deepen relationships. All activities are based on a biblical worldview.

+ Student Council

The Student Council at CBA consists of hard-working students from grades 7-12 who are elected to help put on many of the activities that happen each year. From elaborate homecoming weeks to the formal Stuco banquet, our students make life at CBA fun!

FAQs

Are CBA students required to be in music or play sports?

All 7th-8th grade students are required to take a music class and PE. However, PE students are not required to participate on the competitive sports teams. Music and sports are optional for 9-12th grade students. In-coming students may feel "labeled" as solely an athlete/ musician/academian at a young age, but CBA believes that students should branch out with their interests in order to gain all the life training possible. Studies show that musical training enhances academic performance.  Our goal is to produce well-rounded students.

Is CBA only for a certain denomination?

CBA was started by area Mennonite churches but is an inter-denominational school. Students and teachers come from a very large number of different denominations. Our goal is to focus on Biblical truths versus denominational differences.

Do CBA students have to live
in the dorms?

No. In fact, CBA no longer has dorm students. (In the past, CBA had two dorms that were mainly filled with out-of-state and international students.) Most students commute five to thirty minutes to attend school here. They carpool, drive themselves, or ride on the CBA commuter buses from Weatherford, Corn, and Elk City. The commute time has greatly reduced for our Elk City students now that we are located in Clinton.

Do CBA students have to
wear uniforms?

No. Students have a fairly casual dress code. Our goal is to be neat, clean, and modest.

Is CBA the same as a public school, except that you can pray before class?

Yes and no. CBA is the same in that we provide college preparation. CBA is very different in that we provide life-training through a Christian worldview, as a partner with the home and the church. Yes, we pray before class or extra-curricular activities, but it goes much deeper than that.  CBA provides daily in-depth Bible classes, chapels, morning Scripture and prayer led by students, mentoring, and leadership opportunities. Our goal is to show that the Christian faith should be a 24/7 lifestyle.

Is CBA a
"reform" school?

No.  CBA staff is not equipped for that role. Students who desire to grow in their faith and who want to be at CBA will have the best chance to thrive in our environment.  CBA has high expectations for student behavior and academics. Our goal is to help parents train their children in a Christ-centered environment.
